An educational trip cum picnic to Sardar Sarovar Dam was organized for the faculties and students of Faculty of Computer Applications and Information Technology, M.Sc (IT) programme on 13th February 2016. The students were accompanied by Prof. Rupal Shah, Prof. Vinita Nair, Prof. Dinesh Kalal, Prof. Jenny Kasudiya and Mr. Raju Chaudhary. The trip commenced at 6 AM. The trip was divided into three halts at Garudeshwar, Surpaneshwar and Sardar Sarovar Dam. Garudeshwar had various shrines of Shivji, Ganeshji and Datta Maharaj surrounded by Narmada. After visiting Garudeshwar the bus headed to Surpaneshwar. It is a beautiful place on the ghats of river Narmada. Students and faculties had their breakfast at Surpaneshwar and headed towards Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Sardar Sarovar Dam is one of the major projects situated on the Narmada River near Kevadia Colony-Navagam in Gujarat State. The students and faculty members visited the hydro plant. The dam representative explained the working of hydro plant and the turbine. The dam water is used for irrigation for more than 18,000 sq. km. and hydroelectric purpose which is available for four major states – Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The whole ambiance of Sardar Sarovar dam was excellent. Students got a chance to visit the river bed power house which is 65kms downstream. The power house consisted of six reversible turbines along with huge machines used to operate the turbines. Students were really amazed to learn the working of the turbines. Students enjoyed each and every second of the trip. In all, everyone had a fantastic time!
